Some of the most meaningful work we do happens outside the office. On Sunday, November 22, the Prendergast Law Group team will be at Tanger Asheville (800 Brevard Road) volunteering at the Girls on the Run of WNC 5K alongside our chapter of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys. We'd love for you to join us.
What Is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is a program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade that uses running to build confidence, resilience, and real-life skills. Over a 10-week season, girls work with trained coaches on managing emotions, standing up for themselves and others, building healthy relationships, and setting and reaching goals. By the end of a single season, the growth is something you can see.
Why the 5K Matters
The 5K is the grand finale of the season, and it's a celebration from start to finish. The event is untimed, and the goal is for every girl to cross the finish line. For many of them, it's the first time they've set a big goal and achieved it.
The atmosphere is pure joy: music, homemade signs, tutus, face paint, cheering crowds, and plenty of proud parents and volunteers wiping away tears at the finish line.
Why We're Showing Up
Many women in the legal profession know what it takes to find your voice in rooms where you weren't always expected to speak. The girls in this program are at the age when confidence often starts to slip, and it matters for them to see strong, capable women cheering them on.
Picture a girl rounding the final corner and hearing a crowd of women attorneys calling her name. That's a moment she'll carry with her. We want to be part of it, and we hope you will be too.
How You Can Get Involved
There's a place for everyone on race day:
Volunteer as a course marshal, at a water station, on the finish line cheer crew, and more
Run or walk as a Running Buddy alongside a girl as she completes her 5K
